MSF: Attempted Channel crossing death - Flash quote

26 July 2025 - A man died after attempting to cross the Channel on Saturday, 26 July, in a small boat. The boat he was travelling in returned to French shores, with the man in cardiac arrest. A nurse from Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) attempted to resuscitate the man on the beach, but was unsuccessful.

“Yet again we have a tragedy in the Channel, a channel that is the consequence of the deadly, costly and ineffective security policies implemented by the United Kingdom and France,” said Jacob Burns, MSF’s Project Manager for Migration Operations in the UK. “Safe routes for people seeking safety must be provided by the British government: the lack of safe routes kills. Every day, lives are at stake.”
