MSF: Gaza Medical Evacuation - Patients Arrive in Jordan

On the 5th January, five war-wounded children from Gaza arrived at the MSF hospital in Amman, Jordan, for specialized care. Evacuated with their caretakers from Gaza, in collaboration with the Jordanian authorities, these patients will receive comprehensive treatment for their wounds.

All five children were injured from Israeli airstrikes or bullet wounds amidst the genocide in Gaza, Palestine. The youngest patient is just four years old and is suffering from an ankle infection after his leg was fractured in a bomb blast in Gaza.

As Gaza’s health system has been targeted and destroyed, medical evacuation is one of the only ways for severely injured patients to access care. Delays in evacuation can lead to serious complications and even death.

According to Ministry of Health records, 1,092 patients died while awaiting medical evacuation between July 2024 and November 28, 2025. The WHO estimates that more than 18,000 people in Gaza are still in urgent need of medical evacuation, including at least 4,000 children.

The humanitarian response is at breaking point. Without safe and unrestricted aid flows, thousands remain at risk. The UK Government has indicated it would consider a small number of specialised evacuations to the UK where clinically necessary. For people in Gaza, life remains a fight for survival with severely limited healthcare. The UK must urgently restart medical evacuations. This lifeline cannot be cut or delayed. Lives depend on it

We call on the Israeli authorities to ensure medical evacuations for all Palestinians in need of care now, including their caregivers, while guaranteeing their safe, voluntary and dignified return to Gaza.
