MSF GREECE: Flash quote after another deadly shipwreck in Samos with one dead and two people missing

Emmanuelle Brique, MSF Samos Project Coordinator said:

"On Tuesday morning, just a week after a young boy was found dead on the shores of Samos, we were informed that another shipwreck had put 35 lives at risk. Hours later, we learned that a man had been found dead, while two people remain missing, including a pregnant woman carrying twins. A five-month-old baby was pulled from the sea and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Our MSF teams on Samos responded by providing emergency medical assistance to the survivors who arrived in severe distress. But no response can undo the human cost of deliberate political choices. This is a moral failure, unfolding in plain sight. In the shadow of International Migrants Day, we reiterate our condemnation of Europe’s inhumane border policies, which are responsible for yet another tragedy in the Aegean Sea."
