MSF in Dagahaley camp, Kenya

MSF has been working in Dadaab since 1992 – for more than thirty years. At Dagahaley camp we have been active since 2009. The objective of MSF’s project at Dagahaley is to reduce mortality as well as illness among the refugees living in the camp, including among the inhabitants of host communities.

A combination of an influx of refugees, drought, and flooding has recently led to significant strain on the people of Dadaab as well as on the MSF healthcare facilities in Dagahaley, where the camp is hosting more than twice its intended capacity. New arrivals are regularly reported by MSF teams and UN organizations in the outskirts.

Moreover, Funding to humanitarian agencies working in Dadaab camp has gradually declined despite the compounding needs and has had significantly impacted the quality and availability of essential services for the camp's population. Some of the main effects (non-exhaustive) include Healthcare Strain, Reduced Food rations, Sanitation and Water Services, Infrastructure and Shelter Maintenance.
