MSF MYANMAR: Deadly airstrike damages maternity ward in Mrauk-U, Rakhine State, killing five including a newborn

3 November 2026 - Paul Brockmann, MSF Operations Manager said: “We are horrified by Sunday’s airstrike which damaged the temporary maternity ward in Mrauk-U. We have received reports that five civilians — including a newborn — were killed in the bombing with more wounded. The death of the newborn is especially heartbreaking and underscores the utterly unacceptable toll these attacks take on the most vulnerable. Hospitals and patients must never be put at such risk. This attack follows a previous deadly strike on the Mrauk-U hospital in December 2025. Enough is enough. Even war has rules: children, civilians and healthcare workers throughout conflict-affected Rakhine need protection and services, not repeated attacks.”
