MSF - People in North Gaza governorate are facing inhumane conditions
07 November - After one month of siege and systematic attacks, displaced people, including 10 MSF staff and their families, have fled Jabalia camp to Gaza City. Some of our colleagues have been injured, while one was killed on 10 October. Two of our staff have still not managed to escape.
For weeks, North Gaza governorate has been under relentless violence and blockade from Israeli forces. The area was home to 175,000 people before the ground invasion but is now effectively being emptied of Palestinian life. Residents have no other choice but to risk their lives fleeing.
“In Gaza City, the streets are full of displaced people. Many come to the clinic to treat their burns and injuries with dressings and physiotherapy. Cases at our clinic have more than doubled over the past few weeks. The medical needs are massive,” Mohammad Wadi, MSF staff.
The three remaining hospitals in North Gaza governorate have been targeted and their staff arrested by Israeli forces. Between 01 and 21 October, Israel only facilitated six per cent of coordinated aid movements between south and north Gaza, according to the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), making it impossible to provide humanitarian support.
People in North Gaza governorate are facing inhumane conditions, without access to food, water or medical care. We call on Israel to immediately stop forced displacements and facilitate humanitarian aid in north Gaza, and to stop the indiscriminate killing across the Strip.
