MSF voicenote update on northwest Syria
In MSF supported hospital in Jisr al Shughur in northwest Syria, MoH teams there received 94 patients as a result of violence, and 13 were dead upon arrival to the hospital. All patients are above 18 years old except one 9 year old boy.
The hospitals on the west coast also saw mass casualty’s influxes. At Latakia hospital, Tartus and Banyas national hospitals, each one admitted more than 120 patients with gunshot wounds and other traumas.
MSF responded by donating Trauma kits to these areas. We remain prepared to respond to any further emergencies and addition support if needed.
Itta Helland-Hansen, MSF’s Project coordinator, describes the situation from Jisr al-Shughur, an MSF supported facility in northwest Syria:

Automated Transcript Itta Helland-Hansen 11/3/25 VN:
00:00:02,240 --> 00:00:04,120
I was in the MSF supported hospital,
00:00:05,920 --> 00:00:07,680
They've been working around the clock
00:00:07,880 --> 00:00:09,120
for the last few days,
00:00:09,360 --> 00:00:12,600
receiving 107 patients
00:00:12,920 --> 00:00:16,760
due to bullet wounds, shrapnel and other violent trauma,
00:00:16,960 --> 00:00:18,640
including 13
00:00:20,000 --> 00:00:22,720
Now, we, as MSF, are facilitating
00:00:22,880 --> 00:00:25,080
concrete capacity building for the hospital staff
00:00:25,200 --> 00:00:27,320
to be as prepared as possible
00:00:27,440 --> 00:00:28,320
for these kind of
00:00:30,600 --> 00:00:32,200
But in a broader sense,
00:00:32,400 --> 00:00:34,840
the events of the last days come at a time
00:00:34,960 --> 00:00:37,840
where instead of helping to build up the healthcare system,
00:00:38,080 --> 00:00:39,640
facilities have been closed down
00:00:39,760 --> 00:00:41,320
from one day to the next due to
00:00:43,600 --> 00:00:46,240
Here in Salqin we co-manage a hospital
00:00:46,320 --> 00:00:47,720
with the local health authorities,
00:00:47,840 --> 00:00:49,680
and in the last month, we have seen
00:00:49,840 --> 00:00:52,400
a more than 50% increase in patients
00:00:52,560 --> 00:00:54,200
as a consequence.
00:00:54,720 --> 00:00:57,720
In the pediatric department, it's even larger.
00:00:57,840 --> 00:01:00,040
It's the Syrian population that are the victims
00:01:00,160 --> 00:01:02,120
of reduced access to healthcare.
