Update on MSF returning to Indonesian hospital in Gaza

On 4 March, MSF returned to Indonesian hospital after being forced to leave in October 2023. We're supporting the pediatrics department and building a field hospital nearby. We've treated 75 children, mostly for respiratory infections, skin conditions and gastrointestinal issues.

“One of our first patients, a nine-month-old girl, arrived at the pediatric emergency department with a severe respiratory infection,” explains Sonam Dreyer Cornut, MSF medical team leader. “Without immediate treatment, she might not have survived.”

“Israeli forces destroyed health facilities in North Gaza, leaving many children without care,” says Cornut. "Kamal Adwan hospital was razed, Indonesian & Al Awda were badly damaged. Most health facilities are barely functioning, and pediatric care is insufficient to meet needs."

The needs in North Gaza are immense after months of intense bombing and deprivation of aid. The situation is further exacerbated by Israel’s recent blockade on all supplies entering Gaza, severely restricting the humanitarian response.
